Ex-Black Stars goalkeeper Sammy Adjei has been told he is not guaranteed an automatic first choice role at Hearts of Oak after agreeing a deal with the Glo Premier League Leaders.
The 28-year-old wants to revive his career at his first professional club but must be ready to fight for a slot to be between the sticks.
Hearts have young goalkeeper Philemon McCarthy who has impressed this term. He was in post when the local Black Stars won silver at last month's CHAN tournament.
Another fine goalkeeper, Laud Quartey, is also fighting for more playing time and that means there will be intensified competition to win the heart of head coach Kosta Papic.
A member of the club's management team, Frank Nelson says Adjei must stake a claim for the position.
"It is not a done deal for Sammy simply because he has joined us. He needs to prove his mettle and match Philemon boot for boot," Nelson told Ghanasocernet.com
"He is not going to be our automatic choice and it is only fair the best man in good physical and mental condition helps our course to win the league."
Adjei, 28, was part of Hearts team that won the Caf Champions League in 2000.He has had bittersweet experiences in Israel and Tunisia.
