There is no Ghanaian among officials vying for an executive position in of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) during the continental body’s 31st Congress to be held in Nigeria next February.
A source at the headquarters of the of the continent’s soccer controlling body confirmed to GNA Sports that there was no Ghanaian in the final list endorsed by the CAF Emergency Committee at its meeting held in Douala, Cameroon on Wednesday.
According to the source, Ghana was only eligible to contest for the Zone West B, which saw incumbent Dr Amos Adamu of Nigeria retained unopposed.
Dr Adamu has represented the Zone since 2002, after the then Ghana Football Association (GFA) Chairman, Ben Kouffie withdrew at the last hour to pave the way for him.
Currently, there is no Ghanaian on the Executive Committee of the continental body and it will remain so for the next four years.
From the nominations, Alhaji Issa Hayatou will be retained unopposed as president for the second time running.
The Cameroonian has headed the African football body since 1988.
Algerian Raouraoua Mohamed and Gamal Jaafari of Libya will vie for the sole slot of the North Zone, while Hussein Fadoul (Djibouti), Lydia Nsekera (Burundi) and Madgy Shams El-Din (Sudan) vie for Central East.
Former African Footballer of Year, Kalusha Bwalya who heads the Zambia Football Association (GFA) will contest Suketu Patel of Seychelles for South Zone, with Adoum Djibrine (Chad) and Leo Ababa (Gabon) battle it for the Central Zone.
Former Malian Football Federation President, Amadou Diakite has been retained unopposed for the West Zone A.
The race for the continent’s two slots at the FIFA Executive Committee is between three North Africans.
They are Slim Chiboub of Tunisia, Mohamed Raouaraoua of Algeria and Egyptian, Hani Abou Rida.
