National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, says an NDC government will end the era of politically influenced recruitment into Ghana’s security services.
He said the party will institute a transparent, merit-based system where competence and qualification, not political connections, determine who gets in.
Speaking in the Akatsi North constituency on Thursday, October 16, 2025, as part of his thank-you tour, Mr Asiedu Nketia said the policy will restore professionalism and fairness within the country’s security institutions.
“We will make sure that our security services are properly balanced, even regionally,” he said.
“We are departing from a system where people are recruited based on their surnames to ensure that the services are truly representative and professional.”
Mr Asiedu Nketia stressed that the NDC’s goal is to build a credible and transparent recruitment process that reflects Ghana’s diversity and strengthens national unity.
He said a reformed, merit-driven security structure will not only inspire public confidence but also ensure that Ghana’s armed and protective forces remain loyal to the state, not to political parties.
