Africa’s Major Music Video Channel, Channel O has announced the nominees for the 2009 Channel O Music Video Awards to be held at Carnival City, Guateng, on Thursday, 29th October 2009.The nominees were announced at a press conference held at Melrose Arch, Johannesburg on Wednesday July 2009. This year’s Awards see the re-introduction of Best Afro Pop Category. There are 14 categories in this year. “We are the biggest supporters of African music and wanted to extend that by re-introducing this category (Best Afro Pop). Afro-Pop is a brilliant example of a uniquely African music style that easily finds audiences around the continent and we hope that the platform it gets in the awards will bring more fans to the genre”. Yolisa Phahle, Channel Director of Special Interests at M-Net said during the press launch.
