The District Chief Executive (DCE) for North Tongu, Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, has highlighted numerous development projects undertaken by the North Tongu District Assembly as the district joined the nation to commemorate Ghana’s 69th Independence Day.

Speaking at the event held at the forecourt of the District Assembly, Mrs. Doe emphasised the Assembly’s commitment to implementing projects that enhance infrastructure, healthcare, education, and agriculture across the district.

The celebration marked Ghana’s independence from colonial rule in 1957, following the declaration by the country’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah.

Addressing residents, traditional authorities, teachers, students, and security personnel, the DCE said several projects have been completed across the district despite limited resources.

Completed projects include:

Construction of a two-cell box culvert at Three Kings Special School in Battor

Rehabilitation of the Deve CHPS Compound to strengthen healthcare delivery

Gravelling of a two-kilometre road from Three Kings Junction to the National Health Insurance Scheme office in Battor

Procurement and furnishing of the Juapong Town Council Office

Construction of an animal pen to control stray animals

Construction of a four-unit lockable store block at the Battor Market to support traders

Mrs. Doe also noted that the Assembly distributed 10,000 coconut seedlings and 1,000 bags of fertiliser to farmers to boost agricultural productivity.

Several projects are currently ongoing, including:

Construction and furnishing of CHPS compounds with nurses’ quarters at Afaode and Ayiwata

Three-unit classroom blocks at Mepe Presby Junior High School and Adudornu

Two-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at Tagadzi

Two completed projects—a two-unit kindergarten classroom block at Jordan and a three-unit classroom block at Avedzi—are awaiting commissioning.

Ongoing educational infrastructure projects supported by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) include:

Dining halls with kitchen facilities at St. Kizito Senior High School (Mepe), Dorfor Senior High School, Aveyime Senior High Technical School, Battor Senior High Technical School, and Volo E-Block Senior High Technical School

Dormitory facilities in selected senior high schools

Six-unit classroom blocks at Juapong JTL Basic School, Mepe Holy Christ Primary A, Mepe Roman Catholic Primary A, Battor Avilondzogbe D/A Primary School, and Aveyime Girls’ Model School

Mrs. Doe also revealed that plans are advanced for the establishment of a satellite campus of the University of Health and Allied Sciences in Battor, focused on allied health sciences training.

She commended the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama for prioritising infrastructure development and social investment nationwide and acknowledged the support of the Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in advancing development initiatives in the district.

The DCE further announced that the Assembly will continue sanitation efforts across the district, following the launch of the National Sanitation Day initiative at Juapong Market in October 2025.

The Independence Day event brought together traditional authorities, assembly members, departmental heads, security agencies, teachers, students, and residents to celebrate Ghana’s 69th anniversary of independence.
