Teachers in the North Tongu Youth Employment Programme say they have still not been paid despite persistent appeals to the authorities.The teachers, who claim they have not been paid since November last year, say the delay is having untold hardship on them and are demanding to be paid immediately.Over 700 people have been recruited under the district’s Youth Employment Programme. The Programme has been rocked with scandals since the Coordinator for the area was interdicted for alleged fraud.The leader of the teachers, Raymond Akaho, told Joy News they have received information that the authorities have planned to cut down the number of people recruited to teach under the Programme. According to him, this is unfair, as no explanations have been offered.The District Chief Executive for North Tongu, Mr Moses Asem, confirmed to Joy News that the number of teachers would be slashed down.He explained that it has become necessary because investigations carried out reveal that most of the people recruited do not go to the classrooms to teach.
