Self inducement by nose picking especially in children can cause nose bleeding Dr. Andre Kwesi Kumah of the Eden Family Hospital has warned.
He has therefore advised addicts and parents to take a close look at their children to prevent them from experiencing the condition.
Speaking on Joy FM Super Morning Show, Wednesday, he said the condition mostly occur instinctively when the nasal membranes dry out and develop some crack, therefore, people must use vaseline on their nostril especially during the dry hamarttan season.
He noted infections in the liver, alcohol abuse, high blood pressure, allergic and non-allergic rhinitis, as part of the leading causes of the disease, adding that minor trauma could also result in the condition if a person is on clot-preventive medication like aspirin.
He said though some educated and uneducated persons use ice packs, keys among others on the forehead of people suffering from the condition to stop the bleeding, it is scientifically advisable to hold firm the topmost part of the nose with the head tilted down for close to 10 minutes before attending to the health centre for intensive treatment.
This, he said will reduce 90% of the bleeding adding, people with such conditions should avoid blowing their noses.
