Ghanaian midfielder Lawrence Agyekum says the Black Stars' failure to qualify for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco should not be seen as a 'failure'.
Ghana missed out on AFCON qualification for the first time in two decades after finishing bottom of Group F, which included Sudan, Niger, and Angola.
In an exclusive interview with Joy Sports’ Lawrence Baidoo, Agyekum urged Ghanaians to move on and shift their focus to the World Cup.
"Not qualifying for AFCON doesn’t mean we are a failure,” he said. “We must focus on the World Cup and leave what is behind."
"The World Cup is the tournament ahead of us, and that’s where our attention should be."
Agyekum recently scored his first goal for the national team during Ghana’s 4-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago in the Unity Cup, helping the Black Stars secure third place in the tournament held in London.
