The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) on Thursday, August 21, received a delegation from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) at the Port of Tema as part of efforts to enhance petroleum handling operations.
The visit, led by NPA Chief Executive, Mr Godwin Edudzi Tamaklo, alongside Mr Abass Tasunti, Director for Economic Regulation and Planning at the NPA, was aimed at assessing the readiness of the oil jetty for night-time operations.
This initiative forms part of the government’s 24-hour economy policy, which seeks to facilitate round-the-clock reception of petroleum vessels at the port.
Welcoming the delegation, the Director of Port – Tema, Mr Tebon Zumah, commended the move, describing it as a step aligned with national objectives for economic transformation.
He emphasised that continuous operations would improve efficiency within the downstream petroleum industry.
As part of the initiative, the NPA is working closely with the GPHA to upgrade lighting systems at the jetty to ensure safe berthing and discharge of vessels during the night.
The necessary infrastructure works are expected to be completed by September 2025, paving the way for full 24-hour operations at the Tema Oil Jetty and reinforcing Ghana’s commitment to building a robust 24-hour economy.
