The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has blamed the current aviation fuel shortage on the Bulk Distribution Companies (BDCs), claiming that they failed to notify the Authority of their inability to supply the product.
The BDCs have therefore been summoned to appear before the NPA’s disciplinary committee to explain the reasons behind the short supply of aviation fuel.
The situation compelled domestic airline operators to cancel many flights, while some international airlines had to make alternative arrangements to fuel up elsewhere.
The shortfall has been resolved and most domestic and international airlines are now fully operational.
However, NPA Public Relations Officer Yaro Kasambata declared that as a matter of course, distributors should give his Authority 14 days notice any time they encounter challenges that could affect their supply of the product.
Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam programme Friday, he announced that NPA is putting measures in place to forestall such challenges in future.
He added that, with the re-commissioning of the Tema Oil Refinery, the problem would be at least partially offset.
