The Deputy Northern Regional Minister, Moses Magbinga has accused members of the Gushiegu District Assembly of conniving to reject the president's nominee for District Chief Executive.
He said the majority of the assembly members belonged to the opposition New Patriotic Party, and rejected the nominee for purposes of political chicanery.
The DCE nominee, Yusif Zakaria polled 11 out 24 and thus failed to get the nod.
Mr. Magbinga is blaming Mr. Zakaria's predicament on the 'NPP members' of the assembly. He told Joy FM's Northern Regional Correspondent, Mahama Shaibu that a faction of the assembly went to hold a meeting in an NPP office prior to voting on the DCE nominee.
That faction, Mr. Magbinga claimed, had supported the bid of the Presiding Member who was confirmed after his main challenger had stepping down. An initial ballot had resulted in a tie.
When the first balloting on the Presiding Member ended in a tie, "we decided now to break and do some dialoguing with one another and later it emerged that one of the candidates should step down and that was done. The understanding was that once he stepped down all the assemblymen were going to confirm the remaining candidate as PM, and in turn confirm president's nominee as DCE."
But the "NPP assembly members", he explained, reneged on the agreement and voted against Mr. Zakaria.
