The New Patriotic Party has denied media reports suggesting that it boycotted the one year commemoration of the death of Prof. John Evans Atta Mills.
Sections of the media reported that the NPP was not present at the wreath-laying ceremony which took place at the Asomdwee Park on Wednesday July 24th 2013.
But Mr. Abdulai Fuhlanba, Deputy General Secretary of the NPP says: " There is no truth in this speculation".
Below is the full statement issued by the the NPP and signed by Mr. Fulanba.
NPP DELEGATION WAS AT THE WREATH – LAYING CEREMONY FOR THE LATE PRESIDENT J.E. ATTA – MILLS
There has been speculation in a section of the Ghanaian media that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was not present at the wreath-laying ceremony which took place at the Asomdwee Park on Wednesday July 24th 2013. There is no truth in this speculation. The NPP was fully represented.
The NPP delegation was led by Sheik T. B. Damba (2nd National Vice-Chairman) and included Abdulai Fuhlanba ( the Deputy General Secretary), Hon. Opare-Hammond (the Director of Finance and Administration). The rest were the Madam Joyce (Greater Accra Women’s Organizer), Helena Adjenyo (Deputy National Youth Organizer) and other officers from the National and Regional Offices.
In fact the first person who shook hands with the leader of the delegation on our arrival at the ceremonial grounds was Hon. Collins Dauda, Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources. We were ushered to our seats next to where the bereaved family were seated.
No sooner had we taken our seats than the PNC delegation led by their General Secretary also joined us. The leader of the delegation was sandwiched between Madam Akua Donkor and Alhaji Baba Kamara former Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
There is therefore no truth in this speculation.
Yours Sincerely,
ABDULAI FUHLANBA
DEPUTY GENERAL SECRETARY
