Central Region Communications Director of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs says the opposition NPP does not believe in what they say in public.
Allotey Jacobs explained that the NPP cannot be trusted for a second based on their utterances and actions, adding “they preach virtues and practice vices”.
"If NPP man tells you one plus one is four, be careful because they don’t believe in whatever they say," he stressed.
Allotey Jacobs alleged that before last Saturday's rally at Mantse Agbona in Accra, the party had instructed their foot soldiers to peel off every NDC poster in the Odododiodio constituency where the rally was held which the foot soldiers did.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Tuesday, Allotey Jacobs said the statement by the NPP presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, that no single blood will be shed in this year’s elections, is just a mere talk, because supporters of the party are doing contrary to the presidential candidate’s statement.
Allotey Jacobs argued that some elements within the NPP have been noted for insulting their political opponents, which to him is an act that should not be tolerated.
He recounted the posture and actions of the NPP in the run up to the 2000 elections where the party said ‘we want power at all cost’, adding, such attitude is being repeated ahead of this year’s elections.
"The NPP thinks President Mills’ administration helping Ghana to grow its democracy means that he is weak and therefore they can repeat such modus operandi,’ Allotey Jacobs said.
However, the National Youth Organizer of the NPP, Anthony Karbo rubbished claims by Allotey Jacobs.
Anthony Karbo cited then candidate Mills’ statement in 2007 at the Koforidua congress where he said the party will react swiftly to any party which declares its candidate winner in the 2008 elections.
He quoted President Mills’ statement "let me sound a note of caution, if any party attempts to manipulate the election, our response is going to be swift, commensurate and indeed to the letter. If any party (leader) declares himself winner in the elections, we in the NDC will give them a shocking and appropriate response".
Karbo argued that, if his call on the NPP youth to resist any attempts to rig the election by any party is described as inciting violence, then President Mills’ statement at Koforidua can equally be described as such.
