Reports say grief has gripped the New Patriotic Party (NPP) fraternity in Tamale following a car accident involving the party’s Northern Regional Election Committee members led by their Chairman Alhaji Roland Issifu Alhassan Gbanzaba, Ghana’s former Ambassador to Germany under Ex-President Kufuor.
Confirmed reports are that the Chairman and three other members of the regional election committee comprising Alhaji Abdallah Hindu, the regional Organizer, Hajia Amama, the regional women’s Organizer and Alhaji Adam had the accident in Bole on their return to Tamale.
Although all of them escaped death, they sustained various injuries and were treated and discharged accordingly at the Bole hospital.
According to Harunah Iddrisu, the Deputy Regional Secretary, the committee visited some constituencies in Gonjaland to inspect the level of preparations made ahead of Saturday’s national delegates’ congress.
He said despite the unfortunate accident, all is set for a successful congress at designated polling stations in all the 26 constituencies in the northern region.
Harunah Iddrisu said delegates for the Tamale North constituency will cast their votes at the Ghana Institute of Linguistics, Literacy and Bible Translation and those in Tamale Central constituency will exercise their franchise at the Centre for National Culture which is opposite the Tamale Jubilee Park.
Delegates for the Tamale South constituency are to cast their votes at the Pastoral Centre, and at each polling station security will beefed up to curtail any untoward behavior before, during and after the election, Harunah disclosed.
