Angry executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Nalerigu/Gambaga Constituency of the North East region have issued a caution to opposition MPs that they would not countenance any attempts to politicise and ridicule the marital status of Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to the executives, the action by the members of the Minority Caucus in Parliament is an attack on the religion of the Vice President and his culture.
The comment comes on the back of a statement issued by the Office of the Vice President urging the public to ignore the deliberate propaganda and fabricated falsehood of a supposed second wife of Dr. Bawumia.
“The Office of the Vice-President wishes to inform the general public that the Vice-President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has never met or seen this purported Ramatu, let alone take as a wife. She is a figment of the imagination of people trying hard to tarnish the image of the Vice-President for their own purposes,” part of the statement signed by the Spokesperson, Gideon Baako read.
Reiterating this stance in an interview with JoyNews, the Nalerigu/Gambaga Constituency Secretary Amadu Hussein, said the Vice President does not have a second wife although he has the right as a practising Muslim and a Mamprugu royal to marry up to 12 wives.
The Secretary warned the opposition MPs to put an end to the politicisation of the issue or risk inciting tribal hate among the people in the north.
The executives also used the platform urge the Speaker, Alban Bagbin to call the MPs to order.
