Mr Kenwuud Nuworsu, Volta Regional Chairman of New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday expressed disgust at posters in Ho, projecting Mr Alan Kyeremanten as the Party’s Presidential Candidate for 2016.
Hundreds of the posters in NPP colours, with the party emblem, the elephant, and a picture of Mr Kyeremanten, were posted on walls, abandoned vehicles, lamps and power transmitting poles over the weekend and concentrated in the vicinity of Ho Polytechnic.
The 20 inch (0.50800 (metres) long posters read: “New Hope-2016-Alan Kyeremanten.”
Mr Nuworsu told journalists at a briefing that Mr Kyeremanten was not aware of the posters and certainly not in agreement with this “nefarious act”.
He said he could not conjecture which individual or group was responsible for the act, adding that the NPP is investigating the issue with the view to expose the perpetrators.
Mr Nuworsu said the motive of whoever was responsible for the “mischievous” action could only be to sow seeds of disunity among NPP followers in the Region and beyond.
He said the Regional Executive of NPP is moving in tandem with its national leadership and is part of all recent decisions including the court action to challenge the validity of the 2012 Presidential election as well as boycotting the Akatsi-South and Buem parliamentary bye-elections.
Mr Nuworsu described the challenge of the Presidential election at the Supreme Court as a novelty and a “test case” for Ghana’s democracy.
He said the scenario of a President with a minority in Parliament could provide the much needed check of the Legislature on the Executive.
Almost all the posters had been torn off when the Ghana News Agency went round town around noon on Monday.
