The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Thursday donated relief items to the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to be distributed to flood victims in the Region.The items includes 50 bags of maize, 100 bags of cement and 100 mats is valued at GHC10,000.Presenting the items to the RCC on behalf of the flag bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the NPP National Youth Organiser of the Party, Mr Anthony Kabo said the donation was in response to the call made by the RCC to help the flood victims.He noted that the flag bearer was a very compassionate person and when he heard the appeal, decided together with the party, to donate the items.He urged Government to improve upon the early warning and disaster Management systems to be able to respond appropriately and swiftly to the perennial flood situation in the Region.He called on Government to resource the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) adequately with resources and expertise and cited countries like Japan and Denmark where they were able to respond swiftly and deal with disaster situations before they occur.“NADMO must also be proactive and expect potential disasters as well as ensuring that the right staff and equipment is also provided to handle catastrophes”.Receiving the items, the Upper East Regional Deputy Minister, Mrs Lucy Awuni, commended the flag bearer and the Party for the donation, saying “in times of disaster there is no NPP and there is no NDC, this should continue during and after the election so that together we can build a a strong nation and improve upon our democratic credentials”.She called on the other Political parties and other Civil Society Organization to emulate the NPP by contributing to support the victims.
