The Propaganda Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Richard Quashigah says the opposition New Patriotic Party has succeeded in brainwashing most Ghanaian journalists, the Church and civil society groups to fight their course.Speaking on Citi FM on Tuesday September 14, Mr. Quashigah said the NDC has become a victim of unfair treatment by journalists, most of whom he claim are in cahoots with the NPP to demonize the NDC.He said the NPP has continuously engaged in a campaign of mischief that does not give Ghanaians the freedom to think and assess the performance of the government. “It is not just the political party that is in the business of demonizing the NDC, but there are people that I call the gino-politico, who are parading as journalists and media owners who obviously seem to be in cahoots with our opponents to engage in a barrage of demonization of the NDC and its members and it will be fair to say that the NDC is a victim in these circumstances” he said.According to him, although the NDC has at different times defended itself, a lot more needed to be done since the NPP appears to have mastered in peddling falsehood. “Unfortunately, the NPP seem to have done a lot of work in creating the impression in the minds of Ghanaians that the NDC is a party of lies but they are the liars. They are strangers as far as the truth is concerned" he said."We have often tried to defend ourselves, but because a large section of the media is pro or anti NDC, a lot of the radio stations are owned by people who belong to the other side of the political divide, some of the major news papers are also owned by them, they have a lot of journalists even within the state owned media that are aligned to them, be it Graphic, Times, GTV or GBC radio, so we are swamped as a political party” he stated.“They (NPP) go round lobbying civil society groups to support their course. They tired that with GREDA and it failed. So they are in the business of convincing people and we are very much aware. They have been going round the churches and trying to meet various associations in this country but that will not build a very good society because you are corrupting those groups of people”.In response, the Communications Director of the NPP Kwaku Kwarteng said the NDC must accept blame for that erroneous perception that the media is against them. He advised the party to learn to be tolerant and humble enough to accept its mistakes rather than finding fault with every criticism no matter where it is coming from.Mr. Kwaku Kwarteng, who was on Pointblank with Richard Quashigah to discuss the recent politics of attrition that appears to be ongoing between the two main parties, said the NPP was ready to have a more sanitized political environment and is willing to support any initiatives towards that.Mr. Quashigah on his part, said the NPP is to blame for all the challenges in the country’s political landscape explaining that the NDC only responds when it is provoked.
