A New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful, Papa Owusu Ankomah, has stated that NPP is the most successful party in the history of Ghana, regarding the level of success it has chalked within a relatively short time in office.
He said the NDC government approved of policies but were unable to implement any of them, citing the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the School Feeding Programme and the Capitation Grant as examples of some of the achievements the NPP government has chalked.
Papa Owusu Ankomah stated that the NDC members always wanted the NPP to give them credit as pacesetters when all they did was to approve policies and forget about their implementation.
He said this during the launch of the parliamentary campaign for the Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur, in his bid to win the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem (KEEA) Constituency seat at Elmina on Sunday.
He said the NHIS, which the NPP government had been able to handle so well, had attracted the commendation of foreign countries due to the level of success the NPP government had achieved within two years of its implementation.
He urged all to ensure that Ato Arthur captured the seat from the Convention People's Party (CPP) to secure the continuous stay of the party in power to enable it improve the Ghanaian economy.
Another presidential hopeful, Mr. Hackman Owusu-Agyeman, stressed the need for the party members to ensure that Ato Arthur snatched the KEEA seat from Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom.
He said since Dr. Nduom was going for the presidency, it was obvious he was no longer interested in being a Member of Parliament (MP), hence the need for them to vote for Ato Arthur, who encouraged him when he was the Minister for Works and Housing to dredge the Benya Lagoon.
He added that NPP was going to create a "Dubai" in Ghana with money to be derived from oil to enable the country manufacture machines and equipment.
The District Chief Executive of the Ahanta West District in the Western Region, Kwesi Biney, stated the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had been the most corrupt party in the country since the nation gained independence, making reference to the fact that the party was not courageous enough to allow auditors to conduct checks during their long stay in office.
Biney said although the NDC was always accusing the NPP as a corrupt party, they knew their accusations did not hold water, claiming that the NPP had been genuine enough to allow the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), "which has been in existence since Kwame Nkrumah's time to conduct search into the nation's finances."
He added that God knew the best for Ghanaians and that was why he allowed oil to be discovered in the era of the NPP in order to entrust it into the hands of good leaders.
He urged members of the party to ensure that the NPP captured the KEEA seat from the Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom to enable the party lay hands on all the 19 parliamentary seats in the Central Region.
