The intellectual wing of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been urged not to relent on its efforts at propagating the ideals of the party to voters in the country, in order to enhance the electoral fortunes of the NPP in 2012.
The Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency, Mrs. Cecilia Abena Dapaah, who made the call at the Women's Week Celebration of the Kumasi Polytechnic chapter of the Tertiary Education Students Wing of the NPP (TESCON), said the party needs young and energetic youth to preach its alternative policies and programmes to new voters, who are yet to be exposed to the political realities in the country.
Describing the NPP as a party worth dying for, Mrs. Abena Dapaah said the fate of the party and for that matter Ghana as a country lies in the hands of the youth, who would soon take over from the current crop of leaders.
The Bantama MP noted that the NPP is the only party with laudable policies and programmes that would accelerate growth and development of the youth
She therefore cautioned that if the youth do not stand up against the poor and insensitive administration of the NDC, and make sure the party is voted out of power in 2012, the future of Ghana, particularly the youth, would be very bleak.
Mrs. Dapaah urged the members of TESCON to dissuade their minds from the rather unfortunate perception that individuals go into politics to enrich themselves, stressing that "the success of Ghana and the survival of generations yet unborn should be the major priority of any NPP member."
The Ashanti Regional Secretary of the party, Mr. Samuel Pyne accused the government of the NDC of worsening the plights of Ghanaians with its insensitive policies.
He noted that Ghana currently lacks any sense of direction because "the government in power is short of ideas and plans that can help improve the lot of the people."
Sam Pyne said a number of industries were collapsing while many businessmen had been compelled to abandon their businesses because of the harsh economic policies of the government.
The Regional Youth Organizer, Gideon Boako, also chastised the NDC government for continuing to hold to the outdated socialist policies at a time every country is trying to make the most out of capitalism.
Boako said countries like Cuba, China and the likes who used to be advocates of the obsolete communism, are gradually switching onto free market and capitalism.
The NDC youth organizer observed that the NDC is stifling individual initiatives and private entrepreneurship and thus killing the very foundation of the economy of the country.
The President of the K-POLY chapter of TESCON, Ohemeng Samuel called on the party's hierarchy to support TESCON in their activities to enable them embark on membership drive for the NPP ahead of the 2012 elections.
