Communications Director at the presidency, Koku Anyidoho has berated the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) on their decision to seek divine intervention in their bid to unseat the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2012.According to Koku, the prayer camp campaign strategy announced by the NPP will in no way attract votes from the Christian community.The NPP has regularly been on the case of President John Mills, accusing him of abandoning government business and turning the seat of government into a prayer camp. The NPP argue that there is nothing wrong for the President to invite men of God to the Castle for prayer meetings but they also say he must be seen to be fulfilling his Better Ghana Agenda promise to Ghanaians.However,the NPP on August 11, 2011 directed all its branches across the country to set up prayer groups in all constituencies, both Christian and Muslim to seek the face of God and make God head of their campaign in 2012.General Secretary of the party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, also known as Sir John who gave the directive on behalf of the party observed that the NPP acknowledges that without God all their efforts to win the 2012 general elections would be in vain.He added that the 2012 elections is very crucial hence the NPP must be prepared both physically and spiritually to defeat its opponent and emerge victorious.Sir John debunked suggestions that their current position on prayer groups exposes their double standards, adding that the NPP is never against holding prayer meetings.But Koku Anyidoho on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday stressed that the 2012 general elections would be very peaceful hence the NPP should rather pray for God to forgive them their sins.He recounted how the NPP ridiculed President Mills and accused him of turning the Castle into a prayer camp but now find it necessary to follow suit.The presidential aide noted that the decision by the NPP to resort to prayers ahead of the 2012 general elections shows how desperate they are for power.“Every move by President Mills makes Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP gasp for breath,” he teased.Koku Anyidoho urged the NPP to embark on prayer with honesty and sincerity and not to attract votes from the Christian community.
