Managing Editor of the Gye Nyame Concord, Alfred Ogbamey has warned the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP)to guard against complacency and divisiveness ahead of the 2012 elections."The NPP cannot afford the mistakes they made that took them into opposition; they have to do everything to limit it" he bemoaned. His comment comes after some political pundits raised concerns about the composition of the NPP flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s campaign team for election 2012.Supporters of Alan Kyerematen, one of the aspirant of the NPP flagbearership slot in 2007 are seen working on the sidelines.According to the political pundits, factionalism in the NPP could weaken the party’s chances of recapturing power from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2012.But leadership of the NPP have denied the existence of an Akufo-Addo or Alan Kyeremanten faction in the party. However, Alfred Ogbamey on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, urged Nana Akufo-Addo to, as a matter of urgency, take steps to unite the rank and file of the party in their bid to unseat the Mills-led administration in 2012.He said such moves would not only inure to the benefit of the party but to Nana Akufo-Addo who wants to provide decisive leadership that is lacking in the President Mills' government.Alfred Ogbamey observed that the NPP after eight years in government was internationally hailed as Ghana's best government with good governance structures as well as very good political and economic stability records in the history of Ghana but the NDC managed to defeat them in 2008 due to the internal wranglings in the party. He warned the NPP not to underestimate the NDC who are equally geared up to retain the seat in the 2012 elections. He said it would be suicidal for the opposition party to think that the 2012 elections is a done deal given the economic conditions in the country because the NDC would give them a run for their money. The Gye Nyame Concord Editor who described the NDC as an 'election winning machine' cited the campaign strategy adopted by the Get Atta Mills Campaign Team (GAME) against Mrs. Rawlings at the party’s flagbearership contest in Sunyani as a clear example of the capabilities of the ruling party.“You can level any criticism against the Mills administration but when it comes to how to campaign, how to win people, they (NDC) are experts” Alfred opined.
