The Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it has noted with concern the political mischief being perpetuated by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and some interest groups to demonise the ruling party."For some days now, the NPP had embarked on a campaign of lies and twisting the statement made by the National Chairman of our party Dr Kwabena Adjei", the youth wing said.A press release signed by Mr James Kofi Fonu, Deputy National Youth Organiser (Operations), read: "The youth of the NDC are of the opinion that Dr Adjei's admonishment to the judiciary to take steps to correct the growing public perception that the judiciary is becoming politically biased was in order and must be encouraged by all Ghanaians.""We think that the NDC National Chairman's statement has been highly misconstrued," it stated."It is pertinent to not that Dr Adjei spoke in the Ghanaian context of "so many ways to kill a cat", apparently to tell Ghanaians that he would use constitutional means as pertained in every democratic dispensation.""This does not constitute a treasonable offence as pontificated by NPP.""In 2004, Mr Jake Obetseby Lamptey, then a Minister of State and Campaign Manager for former President Kufour, declared the Presidential and Parliamentary elections as against the decision of the Electoral Commission which is constitutionally mandated to do so.""Where was the then Majority Parliamentarians when Jake committed such a treasonable offence?""It is unfortunate that the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) which had declared itself non political and non partisan had now resurfaced to take a political position on the NDC Chairman's statement. We wish to remind the GBA of their professional responsibility of dispensing justice in a free and unbiased manner to the good people of this country. The youth of the NDC wish to assure Dr Kwabena Adjei of its unflinching support in his aspirations to complement government's effort to secure a better judicial system towards the attainment of a Better Ghana for all, especially the youth. We call on the youth through the NDC Regional Youth Organisers and various youth groups to stay calm and focus on the propagation of Dr Kwabena Adjei's stand on the judiciary.By this Ghanaians would outwit the negative propaganda being churned out by the NPP and its cronies. We also call on NDC members, especially the youth to disabuse their minds of the cheap propaganda of the opposition NPP that majority of NDC faithful are defecting. The NDC following are committed to Prof. Mills agenda of a Better Ghana and nothing can disrupt and derail this noble course meant to enhance the lives of the citizens of the nation. We the NDC youth also pledge our support to the Attorney-General to go all length to ensure that the judicial lives up to expectation."Source: Daily Graphic
