The National Youth Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr John Boadu, who declared his intention to contest for the position of National Organiser of the party, a position currently occupied by his good friend, Mr Lord Commey, has categorically stated that the party in opposition needs strategic personalities to manage its affairs for the 2012 elections.
According to him, a party in opposition would need constituency, regional as well as national executives who will be able to know when to apply a combative approach or peaceful dialogue on a particular subject of national interest.
“There are certain national issues which we need to demonstrate against and there are others which we need to have a peaceful dialogue with government or any other party involved on. In all these things, the party must have executives who will be able to decide when it is appropriate to go on demonstration or have a peaceful dialogue,” he explained.
“It is advisable that we elect strategic people who can take decisions appropriately on issues of national interest so that it will not affect the political fortunes of the party in future,” the aspiring National Organiser told GO in an interview.
Aside Mr Boadu, who had declared his intention to contest the position, are personalities such as Alhaji Moctar Bamba and Isaac Eduasor Edumadze, former Minister of Central Region who have openly declared their intention to contest for the same position.
Banking on his political experience and credentials he has gathered in the service to the party over the years, John Boadu believes that when given the mandate he will surely deliver perfectly to assist the NPP recapture power in the 2012 general elections.
Though it is not clear whether or not Lord Commey will contest for the position, credible sources at the party’s headquarters say that he would like to take a back seat for sometime, and therefore will not seek re-election.
