There is uncertainty over NPP constituency election in Obuasi scheduled for tomorrow for party executives. National Chairman of the Party Jake Obetsebi Lamptey old Joy News he expects the election to go ahead but the MP for Obuasi, Edward Enin says the elections have been postponed following threats of mayhem by a faction within the party. He said the elections cannot take place “…because the contestants have to follow due process by going for forms to fill, and then filing and paying fees before the elections take place,” adding that the electoral committee of the party in the constituency would have to set another day for the election to take place. He however says the constituency is very calm and the party members are gearing up for the elections. Though Obuasi constituency is one of NPP’s strongholds in the Ashanti Region, there has been a lot of acrimonies there, fuelled by suspicions of attempts to influence the choice of parliamentary candidate for the area. National Chairman of the NPP, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey in an interview with Joy News said while the impasse is being resolved, the party will not allow itself to be hijacked. He said the national executives will ensure that sanity prevails in the constituency to ensure that the election takes place without any further hitches. He attributed the problems in the constituency to “conflicts of aspirations” among the constituency executives with one group saying they have been voted into office legitimately and another faction disputing such claims. “I myself with my deputy, my Vice Chairman have had conversations with all those concerned and we are trying to find a sensible way out of the impasse,” he assured.
