A group calling itself the Brong Ahafo Patriotic Caucus (BAPAC) of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has protested against the decision by one of the chiefs in the region to cause the removal of Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia's statue from the Golden Jubilee Park in Sunyani and replace it with that of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
A statement issued in Accra Monday and signed by the Secretary to the group, Captain (rtd) Nkrabea Effah-Dartey noted that the agenda, spearheaded by the said chief, has led to the generation of chaos in the region.
"This isolated individualistic self serving campaign of the said chief has led to generation of chaos in the Brong Ahafo Region.
A section of Members of Parliament are threatening to boycott the 100th Anniversary Celebrations of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
A writ of summons has been issued at the Sunyani High Court, and we hear that demonstrations are in the offing", noted Effah- Dartey.
He added "We do not think there is any basis for the ongoing fanning of tension and acrimony, just because of the search for a place to house the statue of former President Kwame Nkrumah".
The group said much as Dr. Kwame Nkrumah deserves to be honoured for creating the Brong Ahafo region, Busia also deserves the recognition given to him by the region, for putting it on the world's academic map.
The group is not pleased with on-going events and has called for all stakeholders in the region to remain calm and approach the issue with utmost restrain and maturity.
It has, therefore, demanded that the statue of the former Prime Minister of Ghana, Professor Kofi Abrefa Busia should remain intact to avoid any chaos which might erupt in the Brong Ahafo Region.
