The NPP Parliamentary candidate for the 2008 election in the Jirapa Constituency has been selected to contest the by-election there.Justin Dakora, the former DCE for the Jirapa District was beaten by the deceased MP, Edward Salia, in the last elections.Mr Dakora will be slugging it out this time around with the NDC’s Dr. Francis Bawana Yakura, a Social Anthropologist at the polls slated for April 7.The NPP Upper West Regional Youth Organiser, Hafiz Bin Salih told Joy News the selection of Mr. Dakora was by consensus. He said interested persons in the seat had decided to avoid a primary as primaries have led to divisions in the party in the past. That experience and the need to avoid any divisive tendencies informed the decision to choose the candidate by consensus.According to Hafiz, another factor considered in the selection of Mr. Dakora was the fact that he had been marketed already having contested the seat in the last elections. The contending candidates of both NPP and NDC are expected to file their nominations by next week.Story by Malik Abass Daabu
