Scores of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters have thronged the party’s headquarters, singing and chanting party slogans and calling on the leadership to challenge the results declared by Electoral Commission (EC) Chairman Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan.
Clad in party shirts and paraphernalia, some wept over the National Democratic Congress (NDC) victory, alleging that their candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, had been robbed of victory through the connivance between NDC and EC officials.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, some supporters claimed that Afari-Gyan’s declaration amounted to a ‘stolen verdict’ and that he should not have been allowed to declare the results since Akufo-Addo had not signed off on them.
They claimed that there is evidence that Ghanaians voted widely for the NPP and that the results had been manipulated to favour President Elect John Dramani Mahama.
Mr. Fred Oware, First Vice Chairman of the NPP, addressed the supporters, urging them to remain calm and wait for Akufo-Addo, who was on his way to the party headquarters to address them.
