Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, the Vice Presidential nominee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has unveiled plans by the party to establish a Zongo Development Fund to support Zongo communities in the country. He pledged the party's commitment to ensure that the fund, the first of its kind to be instituted for Zongos, would never run out of resources in order to meet the needs of the community.Dr Bawurnia, who was in Cape Coast to interact with the various Zongo communities, received a rousing welcome wherever he went.He was accompanied on the tour by Alhaji Aliu Mahama, former Vice-President of the nation and the Second Vice Chairman of NPP, Sheik Damba. The team called on Alhaji Yusif Kamagate, the Central Region Chief Imam and Alhaji Mahmoud Dandby Mazawaja, the Sabon Zongo, and visited the Ayekoo-Ayekoo and Kotokuraba Central Mosques, where they joined worshipers in prayers.Dr Bawumia assured the Zango community that as a product of the Zongos, he understood their needs better and added that a victory for NPP would mean victory for them as well.He also said he would use his expertise as an economist to fix and manage the nation’s dwindling economy and ensure that every Ghanaian had a fair share of the national cake.Alhaji Aliu Mahama said this August was a holy and blessed month for the Muslim community and that the visit to the Zongo communities was not for campaign purposes but rather a spiritual one to seek their prayers and blessings. He advised the youth not to allow themselves to be misguided by politicians but they should ensure that they adhered to the laws of the land.
