The New Patriotic Party Youth Wing is on a study visit to Stockholm, Sweden from Monday 19th March 2012 to 23rd March 2012. Highlights of the visit include an interaction with members of the Swedish Parliament, a closed door meeting with the Moderate Party Youth League, and a meeting with Swedish Foreign Affairs Ministry on the country’s relations with West Africa and Ghana among other strategic engagements.
The visit would enable the two youth groups exchange ideas and experiences on their parties’ ideologies. Critically, and for the NPP Youth Wing, these interactions and meetings would serve the key purpose of putting the Youth Wing in optimal shape for the essential roles it would play in the New Patriotic Party’s march to victory in the December 2012 General Elections.
The New Patriotic Party formally established ties with the Swedish Moderate Party in 2009. The Moderate Party is a centre-right, liberal conservative party which is a member of the International Democratic Union (IDU) of which the NPP is also a member. The two parties have since 2009 been co-operating in areas such as political campaigning, party organization, women and youth training.
The National Youth Organizer, Anthony Abayifaa Karbo, in an interaction before leaving Accra stressed the strong ties and commonalities in ideas and principles between the two Parties. This is epitomized by the fact that both Parties support the idea of the free market being the best means of achieving societal growth and progress. He also mentioned that both Parties support the quest for personal freedoms and individual development while also acknowledging the role of the state in setting the ground rules and introducing social interventions to protect the vulnerable and disadvantaged in society.
Though both Parties believe in the ultimate sanctity of the individual and the markets, the New Patriotic Party whilst in office introduced a variety of Social Interventions like the National Health Insurance Scheme, the Capitation Grant, Free Maternal Care, the School Feeding Programme among other socially inclined programmes.
The New Patriotic Party Youth Wing delegation which comprises some of the young parliamentary candidates for the party in the 2012 General Elections is led by the National Youth Organizer, Anthony Abayifaa Karbo. Other members of the delegation are: Hon.Razak Awudulai (Parliamentary Candidate, Kintampo North), Bamba Mohammed Salisu(Parliamentary Candidate, Ejura-Sekyedumase), Sayibu Akilu (Parliamentary Candidate, Tamale North), Tahiru Issahaku Moomin(Parliamentary Candidate, Wa Central), Issahaku Chinnia Amidu(Parliamentary Candidate, Sissala East), Ussif Mustapha(Parliamentary Candidate, Yagaba Kubore), Mr. Alexander Afenyo-Markin (Parliamentary Candidate, Effutu), Joseph Ofori Amanfo(Parliamentary Candidate, Tain), Saji Seji(Parliamentary Candidate, Ashaiman) and Sylvester Mathew Tetteh(Parliamentary Candidate, Ningo Prampram)
