Juaboso MP in the Western North Region, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has expressed concerns about recent developments involving the Electoral Commission (EC) in his constituency.
He warned that these actions could cast doubt on the integrity of the forthcoming elections.
According to Mr Akandoh, the EC has appointed 26 polling officers whom he alleges have strong ties to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He suggested that such appointments could jeopardise the credibility of the electoral process, raising fears of potential bias.
In addition to the appointment concerns, Mr Akandoh criticised the recent transfer of the Sefwi Juaboso District Electoral Officer, describing it as a politically motivated move. He claimed that the timing of the transfer raised serious questions about its true intent.
Addressing journalists in Juaboso, the MP voiced his disapproval, warning that these developments could threaten the stability of the country if not swiftly addressed.
He emphasised the importance of a fair and transparent election to maintain national peace.
Mr Akandoh called on the Electoral Commission to act impartially and reconsider the decisions made, urging them to prioritise the trust and confidence of the electorate as the 2024 elections draw near.
“The sudden and unexplained transfer of the District Electoral Officer in this critical period, that is one month to the 2024 general election, is not just suspicious, it is strategic in her place."
“A hand-picked replacement by Dr Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, has taken over and immediately began appointing known NPP delegates as polling officers."
“But let them hear us clearly, no amount of rigging, no number of planted polling officers, and no manipulation by the EC can save them from the inevitable defeat that awaits them.”
