The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has issued a public advisory on the use of Toyota Voxy vehicles for commercial passenger transport in Ghana, particularly on long-distance routes, following concerns about their safety and roadworthiness.
According to the Authority, a significant number of these vehicles were originally manufactured as right-hand drive (RHD) models and subsequently converted to left-hand drive (LHD) after importation.
Reports suggest that some of the converted vehicles may face handling and stability challenges, especially at higher speeds or when navigating curves, prompting questions about their suitability for carrying passengers.

In response to these concerns, the NRSA announced the formation of a Technical Working Group (TWG) to conduct a thorough investigation and recommend regulatory measures where necessary.
The Authority cautioned the public in an interim advisory, stating that:
“Pending the conclusion of the work of the Technical Working Group, the NRSA cautions motorists and the general travelling public to exercise heightened vigilance in the patronage and operation of Toyota Voxy vehicles used for commercial transport, particularly those that have undergone RHD-to-LHD conversion.”
The NRSA stressed that the advisory is “purely a precautionary public safety measure and does not constitute a final determination on the safety or roadworthiness of any vehicle category.”
Road users are urged to make informed decisions to protect their safety while investigations are ongoing.
