On behalf of the national president of National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) Russia, the executive board and the entire student body we write to congratulate His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana Professor John Evans Atta-Mills.We Ghanaian students in Russia have keenly followed the elections from the onset to the final declaration of H.E. Professor Mills by the Chairman of the Electoral Commission as winner and therefore at the time president-elect.We watched as the NPP sought redress of issues in court. For us the fact that they didn’t pick up arms but channeled their grievances through the constitutionally laid down procedure is a mark of maturity and allegiance. Allegiance first to country and respect for the good people of Ghana. The call by both Prof Mills and Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo on their supporters to desist from any acts of violence and exercise patience reiterated that fact.We however want to observe that as President Mills indicated we have only one Ghana, so let us put the elections behind us and forge ahead together (NPP and NDC alike) to build a better nation. We also want to urge H.E the President to encourage and enforce continuity of purpose. We hope to come to a point in time when national programs will run irrespective of the party in power so long as they are healthy to national development. We also hope that the unifying factor will come into full play during and after the tenure of H.E. thereby blending seamlessly the tribal lines that exist today in our political fabric. We anticipate a government where the executive, legislature and judiciary will maintain independence and exercise the ability to also co-operate effectively for the achievement of national goals. We wish H.E. the president all the best as he serves in the highest office of the country.
