Mr. Tony Agyemang Nyame, a 48-year-old businessman in Kumasi was at the weekend elected unopposed as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate for Subin Constituency at its delegates congress held in Kumasi.
The over 150 delegates endorsed him by popular acclamation in an elections conducted by the Electoral Commission.
Mr. Akwasi Abayie, Ashanti Regional Organiser of the party earlier in an address, said the New Patriotic party (NPP) in its almost seven years rule has disappointed Ghanaians in fulfilling its campaign promises of improving their living conditions.
He noted that it was high time that the supporters and executives and rank and file of the party closed their ranks and re-organised themselves to strategise to enable the party become victorious in the 2008 elections.
The Regional Organiser announced that plans were far afoot for the party to re-activate the various branches of the party to help initiate more programmes and activities to enhance the growth and development of the party.
Mr. Abayie stated that, “the NDC will not entertain anything that will mar the beauty of the 2008 election and warned NPP to be careful in any attempt to rig the elections”.
Nana Amoako Ansah, the Constituency chairman of the party, said the constituency has targeted over 45,000 votes in the impending general elections and advised the polling agents and supporters to work harder in the attainment of the objective.
He stressed the need for the supporters to be good ambassadors and educate the people to understand the manifesto of the party in order to win many followers to the party.
Mr Nyame, who is also the Regional Propaganda Secretary of the NDC thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and promised to serve the people and appealed to them to throw their weight behind him to win the elections in 2008.
