Coordinator of the National Youth Employment Programme has been criticized for justifying the involvement of National Security in the program.
Interior Minister Dr. Benjamin Kumbour told parliament on Tuesday that national security did the screening and recruitment of persons for government’s youth in agriculture project.
But NPP MP for Okere Dan Botwe challenged the move describing it as a ploy to recruit foot soldiers for the 2012 elections.
The NYEP Coordinator Abuga Pele says since the introduction of the programme by the past administration the national security outfit has always been involved in its operations.
But a former Local government Minister under the Kufuor Administration Stephen Asamoah Boateng says that cannot be accurate.
He told Joy News the project was introduced by former President J.A. Kufuor at a cabinet retreat at GIMPA and consequently coordinated by the Ministry of Local Government, Rural development and Environment and the Employment Ministry.
"There was nothing about a national security involvement. It’s got nothing to do with national security. So I don’t know where Abuga Pele got his information from," he stated
