As part of activities towards the celebrating Oak Plaza Hotels' 10th Anniversary, the hospitality services provider has rewarded its staff for their efforts which has seen the hotel soar over the decade.
First to be celebrated were 30 staff who have worked for more than 5 years.
Other awardees included Mr. Emmanuel Korle and Robert Danful who were best employees for the year 2014 and 2015 respectively.
Rita Forson and Melanie Tanko received Development Awards for the year 2014 and 2015 respectively. Both had successfully completed the internationally renowned Lobster Ink Housekeeping and Food & Beverage Service modules
The coveted Chairman’s award presented to Staff that comes out with creative ways of looking after guests and exceeding guest expectations went to Heartwill Damalie and Chris Gakpo for the year 2014 and 2015 respectively
Guest Speaker at the event was renowned motivational Speaker and Counselor, Rev. Kelvin Amos Annan who charged the Staff to rededicate themselves towards excellent service with empathy.
“Be creative, innovative, enjoy the work you do and be a problem solver and not one who creates problems” he said
Speaking later in an interview, Ms. Hazel Gumpo, General Manager of the hotel expressed on behalf of management the excitement of a decade of success in the hospitality industry touting that as players and ambassadors “we are not looking to meeting the expectations of the customer but exceeding it” she said
“We are particularly proud of our Staff because they have participated in various international programs such as the Lobster Ink which was first introduced by the Oak Plaza Group of Hotels in West Africa. This program is a practical, online hospitality friendly training that can be done in-between complex industry hours. With practical cutting edge modules that cover Restaurant, Bars Service Excellence, Housekeeping and Front Office Skills.
“For me, it has been an absolute pleasure watching my team members grow and acquire internationally recognized skills, a vision that the owners cherish – for staff to grow as the business grows” she said
On her part, the Sales and Marketing Manager, Mrs. Semira Anku acknowledged the support of its clients in the decade of business and assured the hotel will rise above the current competition in the industry and maintain the excellent service it is known for “standing on this years’ slogan: ‘Oak Plaza Hotels – “The Darling of hospitality in Ghana” she said.
She seized the occasion to mention various awards the hotel has received with the current one being the Best 3 Star Hotel continuously for the years 2014 and 2015 by the Ghana Tourist Authority and the Best Secured Hotel by the Ghana Hotel Association.
“We are also 9th on the Trip advisor and are proud to celebrate our General Manager’s well deserved Award this year for ‘Hotel Trainer of the year’ by the Ghana Hotel Association. We therefore invite visitors to our beautiful Gold City to come and ‘Experience the Hospitality Beat of Africa’ in our hotels,” she said.
Also in attendance was Mr. Joe Ohemeng, Partner with Deliotte and Touche Ghana who applauded Management and Staff for their hardwork which has given a unique brand to the hotel.
