The condition of the 12 year-old Class Three pupil who was allegedly defiled by the Assembly Member for Kwabrafoso East, John B. Mensah, is said to be worsening. As a result, the victim was on Thursday transferred from the Edwin Cade Hospital, where she was initially receiving treatment, to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi. The most worrying aspect of the said defilement case is that the mother of the victim is yet to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), and is finding difficulty in settling the hospital bills of the girl. DSP Sophia Eva Ennim, Obuasi Divisional Domestic Violence Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) Commander, who confirmed the current position of the victim in an interview, said her outfit was still pursuing the Assembly Member. 'I am on my way from Kumasi, but the news is that the victim's condition is not the best, and the fact that she has been transferred to KATH should say it all,' she maintained. She confirmed that the victim's mother was yet to register with the NHIS, but said she would meet with the medical staff at the Edwin Cade Hospital in Obuasi, to give her more information on the girl's condition. It would be recalled The Chronicle published in its Monday, December 6 2011 edition that the Obuasi Divisional Office of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) was hunting for the Assembly Member for Kwabrafoso East, John B. Mensah, for allegedly defiling a 12-year old Class Three pupil. The girl lived with her mother in the same vicinity, while the suspect lives at Kwabrafoso, a suburb of Obuasi. On November 17 and 18, this year, while returning from school at about 11:30a.m., the suspect lured her to his room and forcibly had sex with her. The girl kept the ordeal to herself, because the suspect had threatened to kill her if she revealed what transpired between them, but the victim spilled the beans last Sunday, when her mother noticed that she was in pain, and could not stand for a long period.
