The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has won the Tema West constituency NDC parliamentary primary.
Mr Ofosu Ampofo polled 193 votes to beat his closest contender Lawyer James Enu who polled 104 votes on Sunday.
The primary was postponed on Saturday to enable the party mourn a leading member of the party in the area.
Samuel Ofosu Ampofo attributed his victory to hardwork.
He told Joy News that though he came into the race late, with many doubting his chances, “I told them that, well, I have what it takes to turn things round. Organisation decides everything and I put up a very strategic organizational system in place and I believe that it has paid off”.
Mr Ofosu Ampofo disclosed to Joy News that he will nominate Lawyer James Enu as his campaign manager for the 2012 elections.
Meanwhile, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Kempis Ofosuware, has also emerged the winner in the Tema East primary.
Mr. Ofosuware won with 300 votes as against 82 votes for his closest contender Ebenezer Anuwah Tawiah. Nii Bediako Kraku had 60 votes.
Mr Ofosuware told Adom FM that he will not exploit incumbency ahead of the 2012 elections.
“[If] the good people of Tema are development-oriented, then they will vote for the NDC”, explaining that the NDC government has done a lot of development projects in the area and the country at large.
