Mr. Samuel Fiakye-Amporful, Ghana Telecom (GT) Area Manager for Cape Coast and Elmina, on Friday, February 29, 2008 presented a cash of GH¢1,000 to six car washing attendants in Cape Coast for causing the arrest of a cable thief at Mepeasem near Cape Coast. Mr Fiakye-Amporful said the presentation formed part of a scheme to award GH¢1,000 to persons who would help arrest cable thieves and GH¢500 to informants whose tip-offs would lead to the arrest of cable thieves. He said the reward scheme is to help reduce the GH¢460,000 loss made by his outfit in 2006 as a result of cable theft throughout the country. Mr Fiakye-Amporful said that last year alone the company gave a reward of GH¢30,000 to people who aided in the arrest of cable thieves.
