The Okaikoi North constituency branch ruling NDC has denounced the known parliamentary candidate of the party, Andrew Okaikoi as its candidate for the December 7 polls.
Constituency Chairperson Magaret Atitso said the recent constituencies created by the Electoral Commission has made Mr. Okaikoi ineligible to hold on to his position as a candidate because his electoral area is now in the Okaikoi Central constituency.
Reports say Mr. Okaikoi is bent on contesting Okaikoi North constituency instead of the newly created Okaikoi Central but some party members are unhappy about him holding on to the position which is creating tension in the party.
However, speaking on Asempa Fm’s Kukurantumi Talkshow on Saturday, Margaret Atitso noted that there are no tensions in the constituency because the party has re-opened nominations for people who would like to contest the vacant Okaikoi north seat.
“Andrew Okaikoi I can boldly say is not our candidate for Okaikoi north because his electoral area has been affected by the new demarcation. We voted for him earlier but now due to the new constituencies, he is eligible to contest for the Okaikoi central seat not north period. A nomination has been opened for the vacant Okaikoi North seat and I believe Andrew Okaikoi is aware. One Mr. Abdul Naziru Abass is the only person who filed to contest so today we are going to endorse him," she declared.
She hinted that after series of meetings with national, regional and constituency party executives, it has been resolved that Andrew Okaikoi now belongs to Okaikoi Central.
“Andrew Okaikoi has been told to go to Okaikoi Central. We are organizing the primary today and Naziru is the only candidate so far. He (Andrew)has been told that if he wants to contest for the Okaikoi North seat then he must register in the constituency but as it stands now he is eligible for the Okaikoi Central”.
