A Deputy Information Minister, Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa has said the massive rousing welcome President Mills received from the people in the Ashanti Region is a testament and an endorsement for him to serve a second term in office.He said the number of developmental projects executed by the government in the region is enough to sway voters in the stronghold of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the NDC.“Even in our opponent’s strong hold, the place is shaking; it’s vibrating; they can feel the electricity,” he revealed.President Mills is on a three-day tour in the Ashanti Region to inspect ongoing projects and commission finished ones.Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, Okudzeto-Ablakwa explained that the President’s tour is a strategy to check corruption, misappropriation of funds and assessment of the performance of his appointees in the various regions.He added that, by this strategy, President Mills is able to put the District Chief Executives and Regional Minister on their toes and motivate them in ensuring that projects carried out by government are completed.Contrary to comments especially from the opposition NPP that President Mills is on a sod cutting spree, Okudzeto-Ablakwa noted that “some people have eyes but they refuse to see”.He stressed that, President Mills is not on a sod cutting tour but to commission the projects started by his administration as part of the Better Ghana Agenda.The Deputy Minister questioned why the NPP wants to be credited with the achievement of the Mills administration when they claim the government has not been able to start any project.Mr. Okudzeto-Ablakwa assured Ghanaians of government’s commitment in securing funding to ensure early completion of the uncompleted projects across the country.Meanwhile, Kofi Dokyi Apeatu-Ampaw, a member of the NPP and a panelist on the programme reiterated the opposition’s stands that, President Mills tour is just to solicit for votes from party executives in his second term bid to lead the party for Election 2012.Story by Adwoa Gyasiwaa/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
