The decision by the Chief Justice Georgina Wood to permit live coverage of the proceedings of the Presidential Election Petition currently before the Supreme Court, has received an unending stream of praise from bi-partisan and non-partisan actors.
The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka Sir John speaking Monday on Adom FM's Dea Mehunu programme which was also live on Asempa FM, has described the directive by the Chief Justice as “a victory of common sense”.
Legal luminary, Sam Okudzeto also hailed it as “fantastic for Ghana’s democracy”.“I will say hallelujah, I think is fantastic, I had asked for it and I'm happy that it has happened” he said.
Anthony Karbo, former National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who spoke on Metro TV's "Good Morning Ghana" programme, described it as a laudable move to "cut out all the propaganda and misreporting".
National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Builsa North, Mr. James Alaga and member of the NDC legal team said it was " a step in the right direction".
On the same issue the a former Director General of the Ghana Health Services, Prof. Agyemang Badu Akosa said the live telecast of the election dispute is an educative move to enlighten many Ghanaians on the issues at stake.
The Chief Justice, Mrs. Georgina Wood, on Monday issued a statement directing that the proceedings of the presidential election petition currently before the Supreme Court be broadcast live via television and radio.
