The Omanhene of Nzema traditional area, Awulae Annor Adjaye, has warned the Mills-administration will suffer serious consequences following its decision to relocate the gas processing plant from Jomoro to Atuabor in the Western region.
His comments came on the back of government’s insistence that it will not be swayed by sentiments to back down on its decision.
President Mills told Ghanaians at a town hall meeting in Washington DC Saturday that government’s decision was taken in the best interest of the nation.
But residents of Jomoro are angry at the decision taken by government and accuse the administration of reneging on an earlier promise to site the gas plant there.
Government has indicated it will pay compensation to the residents to appease them but the Omanhene told JOYNEWS assurances of compensation are not enough to pacify them.
“The people feel very bad about the breach of trust and they feel very bad about the destruction of their livelihood,” he stated and added that the people are unhappy that government took the decision to relocate the plant without involving them.
