A major armed robbery syndicate operating in the Kumasi Metropolis has been busted by the Ashanti Regional Police Command, following a coordinated intelligence-led operation.
The arrests come after weeks of terror by the gang across residential areas, including Abuakwa, Tanoso, Apatrapa, Dechembuoso, and Appiadu.
Addressing the press in Kumasi, Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, revealed that one suspect was fatally shot during an exchange of gunfire with officers.

“During the operation, one suspect sustained gunshot wounds during an exchange of fire with police officers and was later pronounced dead at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital by the attending medical officer,” he said.
Another suspect, Yahaya Nuhu, remains at large and is being “actively pursued,” the police confirmed.
The gang allegedly broke into homes armed with pump-action guns and pistols, held entire families hostage, and made away with valuables, including laptops, cash, mobile phones, and electronics.
One of the arrested suspects, Kwadwo Kyei Baffour, confessed to committing rape during one of the operations.

“During interrogation, suspect Kwadwo Kyei Baffour confessed to participating in the robberies and admitted to committing a rape during one of the operations,” the police said.
So far, nine suspects have been arrested, including Kwadwo Kyei Baffour, Bernard Owusu Ansah alias “Hot Boy,” Joseph Oppong alias “Joe,” and several accomplices.
Police recovered stolen items and weapons, including multiple laptops, phones, television sets, three vehicles used in the robberies, several pistols, pump-action shotguns, ammunition and face masks used during operations.
The police noted, “Suspect Bernard Owusu Ansah, who sustained gunshot injuries during the arrest, is currently under armed police guard at KATH, led officers to the retrieval of additional weapons.”
The police also confirmed the arrest of Daniel Dwumor, 46, for allegedly providing intelligence that enabled one of the robberies near the KNUST area.
The suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned before court in the coming days.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command commended public cooperation and assured residents of continued efforts to ensure security.
“We encourage all citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station,” the statement concluded.
