Fabian Didzro-Mensah, 56, is reported to have been killed at about 1:30 am during an exchange of gunshots between the two factions, Monday.

According to the District Police Commander of Anfoegah, ASP Twumasi Ankrah, the clashes started in December 2015 after a man called Torgetse Felix was installed as chief in addition to the town's town.

Consequently, followers of Togbui Kofi Nyarko, a chief who has been on the throne for 19 years and the new chief began attacking each other.

“In December last year, about three houses were burnt after the installation of the new chief and the least provocation triggers firing of gunshots by the factions.” ASP Ankrah told Myjoyonline.com.

He said the dispute was renewed on Sunday at the funeral of a sister of Torgetse Felix.

“A follower of Torgetse Felix was beaten and his teeth were removed by some people believed to be sympathizers of Togbui Kofi Nyarko,” said the Commander.

According to ASP Ankrah this action caused a reprisal attack on Monday when the followers of Togbui Kofi Nyarko invaded a house and started shooting in the middle of the night.

“They stood on a hill and started firing gunshots at the people in the house, but unfortunately, one of the gunmen was shot too” he added.

The gunman who is still on admission at the Anfoegah Catholic Hospital is believed to be a suspect and is being guarded by two police officers, according to the Commander.

"He had sustained some injuries after the factions clashed the other time and was given a referral letter note by at the Margaret Marquart Hospital, where he went for treatment but he did not go because he feared we would arrest him,"ASP Ankrah indicated.

He said one of the injured who also sustained gunshot wounds is responding well to treatment.
