The reach of ‘One-Touch’ mobile network in the Volta Region will increase by about 350 percent by the last quarter of this year as Vodafone-Ghana Telecom gears up for competition in the mobile telephony business in Ghana.
Mr David Venn, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Vodafone Ghana, who made the projection at a meeting with Togbe Afede XIV, Paramount Chief of the Asogli State, in Ho on Saturday, said all existing 21 transmission towers would be strengthened and another 63 added throughout the region.
Mr Venn said Vodafone, which bought majority shares of Ghana Telecom last year, was expected to complete its transition with a stronger technical capacity and human resource base to offer clients excellent services associated with Vodafone worldwide.
He said Vodafone’s strategy was to move in tandem with opportunities that would be created by the roads linking southern Ghana to northern Ghana through Volta Region.
Mr Venn said there were also academic institutions in the region that would require the special communications services which only Vodafone Ghana could provide.
He said Vodafone would increase fixed lines and access to high speed internet service in the region in the coming months.
Mr Venn donated GH¢3,000.00 to the Asogli Educational Fund and expressed interest in replicating in Ghana, a project of research and documentation of cultural practices of the people of Zambia his company supported, while in the East African country.
Togbe Afede urged Mr Venn to work towards listing Vodafone Ghana on the stock market as soon as possible.
He presented a book on integrated programmes his paramount area had been implementing in the last five years to raise the living standards of the people.
