North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has described the ongoing re-collation of election results in certain constituencies as illegal and inconsistent with Ghana’s electoral laws.
In an interview on JoyNews' Newfile, he said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) rejects the process outright, arguing that it has no legal basis under the electoral framework.
“We in the NDC take the view that what is going on is totally illegal. CI 127 is very clear on the processes for collation and declaration of results. Our position is that there is no such thing as re-collation,” Ablakwa stated.

He argued that once election results have been declared, the proper course of action for any aggrieved party is to seek redress in court. According to him, the Electoral Commission (EC) has always maintained this stance, citing the party’s experience during the 2020 elections as an example.
“In 2020, during the Techiman South controversy, we raised serious concerns about discrepancies in the results. Our pink sheets did not align with the EC’s declaration, and we called for proper collation to be done. Despite our demands, the EC told us they could not revisit the declaration and that we should go to court. So, what has changed this time?” Ablakwa queried.
He also highlighted the tragic events that unfolded in Techiman South, where protests over the results led to violence and the loss of lives. “
People were actually killed in Techiman South, and there was arm-twisting to force a declaration. Even then, the EC stood its ground and refused to entertain calls for a re-collation. Why is the process suddenly acceptable now?” he asked.
