The Ministry of Information yesterday disclosed that only 28 Ministers and deputy Ministers under the previous government have declared their assets after exiting office. According to the Ministry, out of the over 50 officials who declared their assets when the New Patriotic Party government took office from 2001, only 28 have re-declared their assets after leaving office. By the Assets Declaration regulation, officials are required to declare their assets when they take office and after they leave office. But James Agyenim-Boateng, a deputy Minister of Information, says many of the ex-officials have failed to comply with the law. He mentioned the 28 ex-government officials who have complied with the law as Albert Kan-Dapaah, Ernest Akobuor Debrah, Samuel Owusu Agyei, Dr. Benjamin Aggrey Ntim, Gloria Akuffo, Major Courage Quashigah, Abu-Bakar Saddique Boniface, Kwamena Battels, George Hikah Benson, Kwabena Mensa-Bonsu and Felix Kwasi Owusu Adjapong. The others are Dr. Kwame Addo-Kuffour, Gladys Asmah, Hajia Alima Mahama, Akwasi Osei Adjei, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Paa Kwasi Nduom, Elizabeth Ohene, Joe Ghartey, Prof. Mike Oquaye, Prof. Dominic Kwaku Fobih, Hackman Owusu Agyemang, Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi, Papa Owusu-Ankomah, Dr. Richard Winfred Anane, Daniel Botwe, Sheikh I.C. Quaye and Jabaah John Bennam. The government on Monday, in reaction to reports attributed to the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition that only 57 Ministers had declared their assets, denied the report indicating that all Ministers of State as well as Presidential Staffers have declared their assets.
