The Private Security Organisations Authority has issued a public notice reminding all private security companies and their personnel to strictly comply with approved uniform standards nationwide.

In a notice dated February 5, the Authority said the directive is in line with Regulation 12 of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (LI 1571). It stressed that only uniforms officially approved under the law are permitted for use by private security operators.

According to the notice, the approved uniforms are: “a white long or short sleeve shirt worn over ash khaki trousers with white stripes on both sides”; “a cream long or short sleeve shirt worn over brown khaki trousers with cream stripes on both sides”; and “a mauve long or short sleeve shirt worn over maroon trousers with mauve stripes on both sides”.

The Authority also approved a special uniform for operators working in the mining and oil sectors. This consists of “a yellow shirt with ash or grey reflectors across the back and front worn over a brown pair of khaki trousers”, and is “solely for the Mines and Oil fields”.

The notice warned that any uniform, colour combination, design or turnout not listed—particularly those that resemble the uniforms of state security agencies—is considered unauthorised.

“Any other uniform, colour combination, design, or turnout not listed above and has resemblance to the uniforms of any state security agency is deemed unauthorised,” the statement said.

The Authority directed all private security operators to comply fully with the approved specifications and cautioned in-house security personnel against wearing uniforms that resemble those of state security agencies.

“All private security operators are required to comply strictly with the above approved uniform specifications,” the notice said, adding that offenders “shall be liable to sanctions as prescribed by law”.
