The "Better Ghana Agenda" would be a mirage if people especially those in government fail to work hard and exhibit high a sense of discipline, Mr. Thomas Addah Dalu, Kassena Nankana West District Chief Executive has said. According to him, the government has earmarked many projects and programmes towards achieving the Better Ghana Agenda but these goals would not be achieved if government officials continue to engage in corruption and laziness at their work places. Mr. Dalu who was addressing the Kassena Nankana West 54th Independence Day parade, indicated that government has sustained a reduction in inflation rate, increased the capitation grant, expanded the School Feeding Programme and provided free school uniforms to make life better for the people. Other areas he noted were the construction of more classrooms to replace schools held under trees, revamped collapsed resource centres, as well as measures to increase food security through the youth in Agriculture and Block farming programme. He stated that "in just two years, the Kassena-Nankana West District Assembly has succeeded in ensuring peace and stability among the people in the District, clad a number of pavilions, built class room blocks, CHPS Compounds, teachers quarters and the provision of electricity has been extended to communities and KVIPS across the District" The DCE indicated that 40 towns and villages would be hooked to the national grid in 2010-2011 and that the Sirigu-Kandiga road would be awarded for asphalting whiles the Paga-Sirigu road as well as Katiu and Kayoro are upgraded with a number of feeder roads. He said the Assembly would soon cede some revenue to traditional authorities and Town Council Areas to undertake their own development projects. They would also be empowered to ensure that good sanitary practices were adhered to in their respective communities. He entreated the youth in the area to avail themselves of the various opportunities rolled out by government and appealed to teachers and parents in the District to instil discipline in the children. He called on the newly elected assembly members to bury their political differences and work together to promote the development of the young District. Source: GNA.
